Founded in August 2021, Lovehoney Group (LHG) brings together two of the sexual wellness industry’s market-leading brands, WOW Tech and Lovehoney. Swiss brand Amorana, acquired by Lovehoney in 2020, also joins LHG.
LHG is home to more than 650 highly trained professionals from over 25 nations, located in nine offices across the world with a broad spectrum of talents across engineering, industrial design, sales, and marketing.
LHG will continue to provide best-in-class brands and truly innovative and high-quality products to its B2B retail partners and consumer websites.
Our history
2021 – Lovehoney Group is founded
Lovehoney and WOW Tech join forces to become the world’s leading sexual wellness brand, with Johannes Plettenberg as CEO and a combined team of over 650 professionals across four continents.
2020 – Lovehoney acquires Amorana
Founded in 2014, Amorana is a Swiss sex toy brand with a multi-language website serving European customers and a website in its native country. This is Lovehoney’s first acquisition since Telemos Capital bought a majority stake in Lovehoney.
2020 – CDH Investments acquire WOW Tech
Founded in 2002, CDH is one of the most well-established alternative assets management firms in Asia, with offices in Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing. CDH pledges to support WOW Tech to leverage product excellence and accelerate global expansion.
2018 – WOW Tech and pjur
WOW Tech takes over distribution of the pjur’s suite of premium personal lubricants and skin care products in North America.
2018 – Telemos Capital acquires Lovehoney
Founded in 2017, Telemos comprises a team of highly experienced investment professionals that combine the best of private equity and permanent growth capital. Recognising its potential for continued growth and success, they take a majority stake in Lovehoney. Richard and Neal remain minority stakeholders.
2018 – We-Vibe acquired and WOW Tech founded
Johannes buys We-Vibe to sit alongside Womanizer, bringing together two of the industry’s most successful, innovative and recognised brands under the umbrella of WOW Tech. WOW Tech now has offices in Germany, Canada and Hong Kong.
2017 – Womanizer acquired
Johannes Plettenberg (pictured) buys Womanizer from Michael Lenke and establishes a Womanizer team and office in Berlin, Germany.
2016 – Lovehoney expands in Australia
Lovehoney sets up an office and warehouse in Brisbane to support its lovehoney.com.au website offering, and rapidly becomes Australia’s leading online sex toy retailer.
2016 – The Queen’s Award for Enterprise
Following launches of French and German language websites, Lovehoney’s export sales continue to grow at a rapid pace. This contribution to international trade is recognised with The Queen’s Award for Enterprise, one of the highest accolades in UK industry.
2014 – Womanizer launches
Driven by the idea to close the orgasm gap between men and women, the German inventor Michael Lenke and his wife Brigitte develop the very first Womanizer, a unique vibrator that uses suction instead of traditional vibration.
2012 – Fifty Shades of Grey
Lovehoney secure the exclusive licence to develop pleasure products based on the global phenomenon that is Fifty Shades of Grey. The toys, produced in conjunction with author E L James, become a hit around the world.
2011 – The sexual happiness people
Lovehoney rebrands as the sexual happiness people. Its mission is to provide a fun and fulfilling sex life to everyone. 2011 also sees the launch of lovehoney.com to serve the US market.
2008 – We-Vibe launches
Standard Innovation was founded by husband and wife team Bruce and Melody Murison in Ottawa, Canada. Drawing on Bruce’s high-tech background to create a unique, premium pleasure product, the original and signature We-Vibe couples vibrator is launched.
2005 – Lovehoney’s first brand licence
Lovehoney teams up with renowned author and sexpert, Tracey Cox (pictured), to develop a line of toys. 2005 also sees the first product review on the Lovehoney website. Today, Lovehoney has over 300,000 product reviews.
2002 – Lovehoney is founded
Friends Richard Longhurst and Neal Slateford identify a gap in the sex toy market for a couple-friendly online shopping experience. The lovehoney.co.uk website is born in Bath, UK.
